Twelve months ago at Comms Connect in Australia, we released the world’s first truly hand held IP Mesh radio, the Mesh PTT radio. Small, with form factor akin to an LMR radio, the mMesh PTT radio quickly gained acceptance by the First Responder market. It gave them assured connectivity in the most challenging environments, as well as the ability to exchange high bandwidth data while on the move, something previously not possible at an affordable price.
With each mMesh PTT radio providing GPS and Wi Fi access point, as well as superb quality PTT Audio, at an affordable price point, we thought “job done”!
We have listened to our customers and the feedback has been fantastic, with some great user-driven suggestions to improve the radios. The result is mMesh PTT V2, being announced today.
So, what’s different?
We moved the volume control to the side of the radio, where the volume buttons are usually found on a mobile phone, and where they are easier to access while wearing gloves.
We moved the Panic button to the top surface of the radio and made it bright orange, so it is easier to locate and activate in a hurry.
We made the screen larger and easier to see, which is a benefit for First Responders working in challenging environments.
That was the easy stuff.
While the high capacity data network is a boon to our users, there are situations where extended range and Audio only, with a lot more users in the same network, would be advantageous. Our world leading Token Passing Algorithm (with 32 radios in a single mesh) uses COFDM modulation for QoS.
Now we have added a second, user dynamically selectable, waveform in the mMesh PTT Radio. Using SSBM (Single Side Band Modulation) this waveform allows the number of radios on a single frequency mesh network to be extended to more than 40. It also allows an ultra-narrow bandwidth, which dramatically extends range and NLOS performance.
Another “world first”, combining two separate waveforms in one Mesh radio, user selectable on the fly, in the same small format hand-held radio, the Ace6 mMesh PTT V2 cements its position as the only true hand-held IP Mesh radio.

With their recent expansion in to the United States market, and their incredible pedigree of 25 years in the First Responder market in Australia & New Zealand, Wireless Innovation is the ideal partner to put this new radio through its paces in the field.
